Qualifications and Experience
I have 20 years experience working in Japan as a coach, trainer and educator and have accumulated over 1,000 hours of coaching and counselling experience. I have worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 15 years and have conducted lectures and seminars at many universities including Rikkyo and Chuo. I have a Masters Degree in Cultural Studies from The University of Leeds, a Bachelors Degree in Communication Studies (Sheffield Hallam University, UK) and a Postgraduate Degree in Psychology (Charles Sturt University, NSW, Australia). I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) and an International Coach Federation (ICF) Associate Certified Coach (ACC). My training was with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) in San Rafael, California.
I love literature and films and I love talking about them. I also believe we are in a golden age of television. HBO dramas such as Deadwood, Six Feet Under and The Wire are novels for television and are the classics of the future.
I am an amateur song writer and performer. I love the songs of Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Andy Partridge, Jack Johnson, Joni Mitchell and many others. Here's a link to my YouTube channell:
I love travel for similar reasons that I love literature: it’s inspiring, enriching, liberating and enjoyable. I have never encountered a problem that couldn’t be alleviated by getting on a train, plane or automobile. For me travel gives freedom from constraint and therefore enables perspective; perspective gives insight; insight is curative because its nature is to solve or, in the best cases dissolve, problems.
I have microlight and hang glider pilot's licenses and take to the skies whenever I can.
My newest passion is golf. I love the psychological challenges and the impetus it provides to get out to the countryside. I enjoy playing different courses and in different countries. So far I have played in various places in Japan and England as well as Brisbane, Bangkok, San Francisco and Brussels.
Check out the videos below to see me being interviewed for Globis University TV and at the Co-Active Coaching Summit in Napa (where I first heard the quote above that continues to inspire and guide me). Plus a short segment from my Emotional Intelligence seminar at JIC.
WHAT DREAM OF YOURSELF DO YOU PUSH AWAY THINKING IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?
